Truck drivers receive tokens of appreciation over the holidays

Because shipping is a 24/7 business, many large vehicle operators are forced - or choose - to spend the holidays on the road. Fortunately, many drivers who traveled through Utah this season did not go without gifts.

According to The Spectrum, operators who passed through Cedar City's Love's Truck stop on Christmas Day were met with gift bags. These packages included pencils, sunscreen, a can of soda, t-shirts, hats and duffel bags. The operators were also given cards that were signed by residents of the town.

The organizers of this initiative, which was launched last year, told the news source that it is intended to show the truckers how much they are appreciated.

"Without them...we wouldn't have anything from the pens that we write with to the clothes that we wear on our backs," Brady Romo, a prospective driver and resident of the town, told the media outlet.

Similar efforts took place in Arizona, where a group of women who live in an RV park sewed more than 150 stockings for truck drivers, the Yuma Sun reports.

Operators who have completed online driver safety training may be better equipped to take on the busy roads during high-traffic periods, such as the holidays.
