Truck drivers in demand across US

Created: Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 02:01 pm

According to Your News Now, a news source serving the area around Syracuse, New York, the booming natural gas drilling industry in Bradford, Pennsylvania, is increasing the need for truck drivers in the area.

With the demand for truck drivers continuing to grow, having the necessary CDL training is important for drivers seeking work. The truckers are needed in the area to carry water and other materials to and from gas well sites as part of the hydrofracking process, said the news source.

"A lot of companies in the area always looking for drivers," Mike Hamilton, CDL program instructor at the Northern Tier Career Center, told the news source. "You can't not pick up a newspaper and not see some sort of an advertisement for 'We need drivers. We need drivers.'"

The news source reported that Hamilton teaches a seven-week CDL course, which includes classroom and road instruction. Those who are interested in joining the trucking industry can also consider flexible, reputable online CDL training programs to get the certifications they need to be competitive in this hot job market.

FleetOwner magazine said many trucking companies are encouraging workers in a number of professions to look to become truck drivers in response to the growing need.

The magazine found LTL carrier Saia has extended offers to many dockworkers to consider the trucking industry to help lead its fleet of 2,475 city and 1,820 linehaul tractor-trailers.
