Truck driver training creates new jobs for many Americans
A truck driver training school in Springfield, Missouri, is opening up new opportunities for local students who are looking for a new career, reported the Springfield News-Leader.
Mike Walker, president of TCSI/Transland, told the news source his company donated a number of material and trucks the school can use in order to help drivers earn the necessary CDL training to become a wanted member of the trucking community.
"It got me to pass the test on the first try," Todd Ray, who recently became a truck driver, told the news source. "It taught me everything. Quite a bit of it I use on the road. The boys want to come on a ride with me, but I have to have 90 days solo before I can do that. I’m happy with what I do now. Working for Transland is like working for a family."
Truck driver training will soon be available for inmates in Ohio's prisons, according to the Chronicle Telegram. Ohio prison director Gary Mohr said the plan will require some coordination with state and federal authorities since inmates will have to pass a driving test while incarcerated.
