Trailer attachment saves fleet management owners on fuel costs

Trucking equipment companies are consistently looking to develop greener and more efficient big rigs by designing new features and models for freight hauling vehicles. Recently, SmartTruck, a motor vehicle manufacturing company, released an innovative plan that changes the aerodynamics of truck trailers.

The new design, named the UT-6 Trailer UnderTray System, fits underneath the trailer near the rear wheels. The product's scoop-like shape helps wind-flow better under the bottom of the truck, which in turn saves gas use by more than 10 percent, according to the manufacturer SmartTruck.

Mitch Greenberg, president of SmartTruck, says the model is available in the U.S. currently and that they hope to bring the equipment into the Canadian market as well.

"This redesigned system provides greater durability and is much more adaptable to fit the wide range of trailer models on the road today, while still delivering outstanding fuel efficiency," he said in a statement.

Due to uncertain economic times, the add-on to trailers may streamline expenses in the long run for trucking companies, and maintain manageable business costs. While this product may help with fuel efficiency, business owners in the industry may want to take steps to ensure that trucking safety is also a top priority.
