Survey reveals that employment in the trucking industry may be increasing

Created: Monday, March 14th, 2011 07:01 am

A recent survey from the Transport Capital Partners (TCP) shows that more than 66 percent of carriers have high confidence in rising volumes and rates for the future.

Now may be a good time for safety directors to enroll their employees in online truck driver safety training classes, which could help them improve their ability to operate their vehicle with the projected increase in workload.

The survey shows that current demand for trucking professionals is expected to increase by 4 to 5 percent in the next two years.

"While we are in the middle of a seasonally down first quarter, carriers see strong freight and remain optimistic about the year ahead," Lana Batts from TCP told the news source. "Truckers are convinced they must receive rates to compensate for rising costs across the board with the need to replace the aging tractor fleet."

The survey also revealed driver pay rates may increase in the second half of the year to compensate for the increases in fuel costs.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities in transportation and material moving occupations are expected to increase by nearly 13 percent over the next seven years.
