Programs makes it easier for truckers to get CDL testing
Williston State College in North Dakota recently partnered with a CDL training school as part of a pilot program put together by the state's department of transportation, which will give students interested in becoming a trucker a place to receive the testing they need, reported the Williston Herald.
"The state DOT asked if we wanted to be a pilot site for third-party testing," Deanette Piesek, CEO of the driving school, told the newspaper. Piesek also said students must go through 135 hours of coursework to earn the certification.
The paper said the DOT is expected to expand these types of CDL training opportunities if this pilot program is successful, making it much easier for students and prospective truckers across the nation to earn the correct certification they need to become a truck driver.
Online CDL training programs provide another convenient option for those interested in joining the trucking industry.
Another initiative making it easier to become a trucker comes from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who recently launched an "experience counts" campaign. The campaign gives active-duty military and New York National Guard eligible for a waiver to apply for a CDL if they have experience driving a similar vehicle while in service, reported the Ithaca Journal.
