Program teaches truckers about safer cell phone use

Truckers need to stay connected while on the road, but this sometimes can be difficult due to the constraints from laws about cell phone use while driving. Although texting with a hand-held phone is not permitted, there are other ways that truckers can use their devices, which will avoid fines for fleet management owners and give everyone in the trucking industry a heightened sense of protection.

One company named ZoomSafer has developed a program called FleetSafer Vision. This risk-management system is an optional service that trucking company owners can utilize to help train their employees about the dangers of using their phones while on the road.

"The data simply doesn't lie - employee texting and typing while driving has proven to be a major contributor to crashes, which poses a huge risk and liability to trucking firms," Matt Howard, chief executive offer at ZoomSafer, said in a statement.

Truckers who have recently completed their CDL training may be tempted to use their phone while working, but investing in a hand-free headset or smartphone with text-to-talk capabilities may be a smart and safe solution to the issue.
