Pennsylvania trucking industry seeing growth

Created: Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 04:01 pm

Watsontown Trucking has expanded in recent months, causing the Pennsylvania company to bring on new employees.

The company is looking to add 25 truck drivers with the proper CDL training to its staff, to drive new trucks the company bought to meet the growing demands of its clients.

"The purchase of new equipment is necessary to meet the growing demand for our services from our customers," said Steve Patton, president of Watsontown Trucking. "We continually have upgraded our fleet of trucks, trailers and technology to ensure that our equipment is operating at the peak efficiency that is possible."

Patton said the company purchased 10,000 square feet of office space to expand its facility, which the company expects to be completed in June.

While Watsontown Trucking is experiencing growth, the statewide trucking industry in Pennsylvania recently underwent changes when Governor Tom Corbett signed a bill to bring Pennsylvania in line with federal rules on medical certification, reported Land Line magazine.

The magazine said the new law requires truckers to prove they are healthy enough to drive by providing documentation from a doctor by February 2014, which if not done can result in a loss of certification and licensing.
