Organizations look to improve industry
The Canadian Trucking Alliance recently underscored the importance of deploying adequate driver training to increase trucker safety and enhance fleet management efforts throughout the industry. In regard to livestock transporters in Canada, the CTA aims to increase efficiency and accountability in the transportation of animals by properly trained professionals.
“Livestock transport requires specialized skills and knowledge of both transport best practices and animal care,” said Deanna Pagnan, director of the CTA’s Livestock Transporters’ Division. “A national, accountable and transparent training program that is demanded by all levels of the supply chain is necessary to ensure all transporters possess the knowledge and skills required to safely and securely transport animals across Canada.”
In addition, the Colorado Motor Carriers Association, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Walmart are teaming up deploy COTrip Kiosks throughout the state to provide truckers and drivers with important information when traveling on side roads in Colorado, Times-Call reported.
The kiosks will hold large-screen televisions broadcasting live webcam images and a list of highway conditions, closures and other alerts to promote safe driving. There will also be a cotrip.org website to continually update traffic and road conditions around the clock, Times-Call reported.
