Online truck driver training courses may address sexual harassment
Over the past few months, legislators and members of the transportation industry have taken a keen interest in truck driving safety through measures such as CSA 2010. Now, some representatives of this field are turning their attention to a related issue: sexual harassment on the road.
The Women in Trucking Association recently announced that it will be working with J.J. Keller and Associates to draft a white paper on the best practices for addressing this problem during driver training.
Ellen Voie, the organization's president and CEO, said that "putting two unrelated individuals in the cab of a truck for a few weeks of training can create a tenuous environment, especially when one is a male and one is a female."
However, the document will be gender-neutral, as sexual harassment is not limited to interactions between individuals of different sexes, she added. The white paper is expected to include suggestions for minimizing these issues as well as ways to address such wrongdoing when it does occur.
Compliance training for truck drivers may enable commercial vehicle operators to keep up with policy changes that could affect their industry.
