As part of an increased focus on trucker health and eco-friendliness, many companies are beginning to examine the possibilities that may be afforded by hybrid vehicles. Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is one of these organizations, as the company recently announced the release of a new fleet of sustainable commercial vehicles, Fleet Owner reports.
This fleet was developed as party of the Maryland Hybrid Truck Initiative, and production of the trucks was funded by government grants.
DTNA officials told the news source that this announcement is the first step in a series of initiatives that are intended to make hybrid trucks more common in the industry. Next, the company will attempt to market the benefits of these vehicles, and then foster a wide demand for them.
Mark Lampert, DTNA's senior vice president of sales and marketing, said that "the overall timeline [of this project] remains uncertain," quoted by the news source.
According to the DTNA website, the company recently developed BlueTec Emissions Technology, which can result in a 5 percent increase in fuel economy when used in long-haul trucks.
