Old Dominion expands Detroit Service Center
Old Dominion Freight Line is expanding its service into Canada with a relocation and expansion of the Detroit Service Center, according to Truck News.
The Detroit Service Center was moved to a larger, state-of-the-art facility in Troy, Michigan. Old Dominion has had a facility in Troy for 11 years, as well as six other terminals in the Great Lakes State.
With a strategic location along the Interstate 75 corridor, which is one of the largest over land trade routes between the United States and Canada, Old Dominion will be able to offer overnight service into parts of Ontario, the source reported.
The relocation also brought new opportunities to the industry at a time when truck driving jobs are going unfilled. Old Dominion was able to add 20 percent more jobs to the Detroit terminal workforce with a new repair shop that will offer direct service to a number of cities in the Midwestern region.
"This expanded facility guarantees our customers will continue to receive the superior service they have come to expect from Old Dominion," John Westendorf, manager of the Detroit terminal, told the source. "We're excited about the growth opportunities this state-of-the-art facility affords us."
