Obama plans on reducing fuel emissions

The recent statements President Barack Obama has made to address the nation greatly affects qualified truckers who've completed CDL training, especially when it comes to energy and fuel costs. This month, Obama announced a plan that will benefit trucker health and fleet management owners in the long run by moving towards better fuel efficiency for trucks on the nation's highways, Trucking Info reports.

By 2018, the president hopes to shrink the amount of fuel consumption and greenhouse emissions by 20 percent. This goal may be accomplished by updating old trucks and purchasing new ones with modern equipment standards that use less gas.

Obama stated the government has made moves to make regular vehicles more eco-friendly, but this is the first time under his administration that he has focused efforts on big rigs.

"I'm proud to have the support of these companies as we announce the first-ever national policy to increase fuel efficiency and decrease greenhouse gas pollution from medium and heavy duty trucks," Obama said.

According to Bloomberg, since the trucking industry uses roughly 22 gallons of diesel gas annually, the switch to more environmentally friendly commercial vehicles may greatly impact the overall reduction of pollutants in the U.S.
