Northern flooding hinders driver's ability to haul freight

Although Tropical Storm Irene has come and gone, the damages wrought by this system are still preventing many truckers from completing their hauls at a regular pace. According to The Herald Tribune, many parts of the Northeast are experiencing heavy rains, which, when coupled with past infrastructure issues, has forced people in some regions to be evacuated from their homes and business.

Even fleet management owners who have drivers with extensive CDL training cannot combat flooded roadways. These extreme conditions are putting business on hold for many companies, including those in the trucking industry.

In Vermont, officials are increasingly aware of the highways that are covered in rising water, reports the Rutland Herald. Some temporary roads have been cleared so that emergency vehicles, truckers and other motorists may pass through risky regions, but the problems of floods still persist as the weather remains rainy and windy.

Truckers who need to navigate hazardous highways in times of extreme weather should proceed with caution and keep in mind the importance of truck driving safety and trucker health while on the road.
