New trucking association lends a hand to minority drivers
An old trucking veteran is introducing his new initiation to welcome and encourage minority drivers and owners into the trucking industry, reports Trucking Info.
The National Association for Minority Truckers (NAFMT) has been a dream of Kevin Reids, who is African-American himself.
The group offers one-on-one assistance by pairing up a seasoned road veteran with a new member to suggest guidance and direction while they begin their new occupation. NAFMT also organizes a monthly newsletter and networking opportunities.
Reids says he is filling the gap to provide an outreach for truckers looking to gain momentum in their careers.
“Almost every segment of the industry had some form of representation or resource, except for minorities,” he told the news source. “There are a vast number of minorities in the industry with no association to represent them. That was totally mind-blowing to realize.”
According to the organization’s website, the NAFMT strives to educate and counsel aspiring and current minority truck drivers so they can stay competitive and on top of changes in the expanding and growing industry.
