New trucker receives special honor

Created: Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 07:01 am

Despite the recent talks about the trucking industry needing more new drivers, there are still plenty of young and eager truckers who want to hit the road right after they complete their compliance training for truck drivers. Some have followed this career path on their own, while others are following in the footsteps of their family members who also enjoy hauling freight. Recently, second-generation trucker Darek Paul from New Jersey was named Trucking’s Top Rookie for his outstanding performance, reports The Daily News Journal.

This recognition, sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA), is given to a young driver for their efforts in maintaining a clean, accident-free record while working for TMC Transportation. Navigating a big rig was Paul's first job after completing a 15-month tour in Iraq with the U.S. military.

According to the organization's website, the CVTA works towards providing young, aspiring truckers with the information they need about CDL training, certifications and more. Drivers who would like to start their trucking career should consider completing online truck driver training courses, which will begin their preparation for work on the road.
