New truck tech creates greener vehicles

Created: Friday, July 8th, 2011 09:01 am

Many fleet management owners would like to utilize more ways to protect the environment when it comes to their big rigs. However, with fuel costs and equipment prices on the rise, sometimes these ideas cannot become a reality due to financial restrictions. A recent study by The Boston Consulting Group found that that new technology is available, but it must also be affordable for fleets.

Recent innovations have been able to cut 40 percent of emissions from internal combustion engines (ICE) to decrease pollution caused by vehicles. Electric vehicles (EV) are also becoming more popular as manufacturing is being streamlined and efficiency is on the rise.

Officials are advocating that trucking companies should investigate the benefits of both ICEs and EVs to see if either method would benefit the businesses' revenue or effectiveness.

China has already begun to draft major plans to introduce EVs as a norm on their roads. By 2015, the country hopes to have 500,000 trucks, buses and cars using EV technology. The government is offering rebates and incentives to make this idea a reality. Experts in the U.S. say they hope the nation follows suit to preserve the delicate atmosphere for the future.
