Navistar creates Operation Assist to aid disaster relief
Navistar International Corporation has launched an initiative called Operation Assist, designed as a disaster relief program to help victims with recovery efforts after Hurricane Sandy recently ravaged the East Coast. The program will help International Truck customers get back in business in a timelier manner, according to The Trucker.
With Operation Assist, Navistar will coordinate with its International Truck North American dealer network and International Used Truck Centers to help customers in the region who hold truck driving jobs gain access to new or used trucks that can replace vehicles that were lost or damaged by the storm.
"A lot of our customers still don't know what they have or what they don't have," Mike McMahon, vice president of used truck sales for Navistar, told The Trucker. "So, we are getting trucks ready with different kinds of bodies and trying to figure out how quickly we can get things out there to help. In times like these, it's about more than business. We want to do the right thing."
To further help recovery efforts, Navistar has also pledged to match dealer and employee contributions up to $50,000 with a donation to the American Red Cross, the source reported.
