NYC company to manufacture more electric trucks

Some big trucking companies in major cities are helping organizations that advocate for a greener environment. For example, Smith Electric Trucks will be constructing some commercial vehicles in the near future that can be used by local businesses. The initiative will also create jobs at the plant, which will be based in New York City.

The main type of truck that will be the focus of this project will be the Newton model, which can run for up to 150 miles on a single charge and is much more environmentally friendly then its diesel counterparts.

This plan will coincide with the new incentive program launched by New York Governor Andrew Coumo, who is offering fleet management owners the chance to be reimbursed when they purchase electric vehicles (EVs) in the future.

"This multi-year commercial EV incentive program is a strong example of the state's commitment to accelerate deployment of this technology, which is critical for reducing U.S. oil dependence and enhancing long-term national and economic security,” Sam Ori, staff member of the nonprofit Electrification Coalition, said in a statement.

Truckers who have recently completed their CDL training may want to look for companies that use electric vehicles, which could be the wave of the future in the trucking industry.
