More Americans considering the trucking profession

According to Austin, Minnesota, ABC affiliate KAAL, an expected shortage of truckers of up to 400,000 in the United States is driving the trucking industry to call out for more workers.

The news source said new technology, increased wages and economical factors are inspiring more people to consider trucking as a job option, and compelling many to get the appropriate CDL training to become a trucker.

Jonathan Rymer, an instructor, told the source he has seen students ranging from laid-off long-time factory workers to recent high school graduates looking to start a career.

As people across the United States are realizing that many of their preconceptions about trucking are unfounded, more people are willing to give the industry a second look, said the source. For example, people are recognizing that truckers do not have to be capable of working 20-hour shifts.

Truckers in Minnesota may also benefit from law changes that are currently being discussed by the state's Senate Transportation Committee, which include increasing speed limits on two-lane roads from 55 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour, reported Land Line magazine.
