Modern driving technology for better trucking

Truck drivers have the important task of regulating their freight, equipment and navigation at the same time to ensure the safety of themselves and others on the road. Recently, engineers in Switzerland have been researching ways to improve technology in vehicles that can work alongside the skills that drivers already possess, reports Trucking Info.

Manufacturing company Scania has been collaborating with the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm to create futuristic features for trucks. The system has a GPS that sets out a route in advance and then indicates traffic issues or blocks in advance. It also detects traffic lights so drivers will know whether or not to break.

Also in the works is a method to regulate platooning, or truckers traveling in packs. The equipment can help maintain perfect distances between vehicles.

Other organizations are making great strides towards implementing the latest GPS technology for motor vehicles. In Utah, a company called Kairos Automoni has been working with the U.S. Navy to develop trucks that can follow a designated path via a pre-determined path, reports The Daily Journal. Experts say this new knowledge may help drivers navigate roads safer in the future.
