Missouri's Interstate 49 nears completion

Created: Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 08:01 am

Officials in Missouri have almost completed the new Interstate 49 highway designation, according to Truckinginfo.com.

This new infrastructure will encompass 180 miles of the current US-71 highway between Bannister Road in Kansas City and Route H in Pineville, after this section was upgraded to meet interstate construction and safety standards in 2010. The upgrade project involved constructing interchanges and overpasses as well as removing at-grade intersections in 15 locations between Harrisonville and Lamar. A total of 185 miles have been upgraded so far, and the new additions include infrastructure and outer roads.

Officials created a long-term plan to benefit this popular route for CDL license holders.  Interstate 49 will eventually provide one easy connection from the ports in southern Louisiana to the Canadian border via North Dakota's Interstate 29. Construction crews in Arkansas and Louisiana are also hard at work to complete portions of Interstate 49 in their states.

The Interstate 49 construction project was first created in the late 1980s, with construction taking place from the early 1990s through 2012. The first section of the highway opened in Louisiana in 1984, and in the years since, has connected with many other sections heading north.
