Indiana officials believe truck driving jobs are on the rise in the state
Despite rough economic times for many states and their trucking companies, Indiana officials expect nearly 2,000 freight hauling jobs to be available in 2011, The Republic reports.
Officials told the news source that improvements in the nation's economy may be increasing the demand for goods that are shipped by trucks and operators who deliver them. They added that the retirement of baby boomer truck drivers may be opening positions for younger people in the near future.
Many companies are requiring operators to have nine months of experience and CDL training. Meanwhile, others do not require work experience and those driving trucks of less than 26,000 pounds may not need a commercial license.
As such, applicants may wish to enroll in online CDL training to gain knowledge in the proper practices of operating larger vehicles. These sessions can also help drivers learn the new CSA 2010 compliance standards.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities in transportation and material moving occupations are expected to increase by nearly 13 percent over the next seven years.
