Government job stimulus could benefit nationwide truckers
President Barack Obama recently proposed a plan to grant funds to states across the nation that would create jobs and repair infrastructure, including the roads on which truckers make their livelihood. Ohio officials say they would welcome this revenue, which could be worth more than $4 billion in improvements for the state, reports The Toledo Blade.
An immediate need for repair is a damaged bridge which links major highways between Ohio and Kentucky that many truckers use to transport cargo. If the bridge cannot be mended, it could put trucking safety in jeopardy.
Mike Bell, Mayor of Toledo, Ohio, said he welcomes the idea of a federal grant that can improve his city's infrastructure.
"Anything that would help the trucking industry and railroad would be a boon," he told the news source.
Another state whose trucking industry could benefit from this proposal is Alaska. According to Forbes, there may be millions of government dollars given to the state for needed upgrades to its transportation routes, including the highways where truckers often transport Alaska's oil and fuel.
