Government group and Volvo team up to create more efficient trucks

Truck developers are realizing that the industry is starting to favor more fuel-efficient vehicles, which will benefit the environment and trucker health in the long run. Recently, Volvo Trucks of North America was granted funds to create and design new trucks that will reduce emissions by big rigs.

The U.S. Department of Energy will put $19 million towards the development of Volvo's SuperTruck, which will have superior aerodynamics and engine technology that is slated to conserve fuel and reduce harmful pollutants in the air.

Ron Huibers, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Volvo Trucks, said the partnership between his trucking company and the government will be lucrative for the business and the energy conservation goals of country.

"Freight transportation plays a vital role in our daily lives and the strength of our nation, so it’s essential that we step up our efforts to create the best, most efficient heavy-duty truck solutions possible," he said.

Truckers who have completed CDL training or have undergone other safety courses may have the chance to handle these new vehicles in the future, which may change how the trucking industry is operated.
