GPS system supported by FMCSA for future trucking trips

Created: Friday, October 7th, 2011 04:01 pm

Planning continues in preparation for the new cross-border ruling by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to ensure that all those involved with logistics relations between the U.S. and Mexico are safe and protected. Since the FMCSA said that all trucks from both countries involved need to be fitted with GPS tracking devices, one company that manufactures this technology has been contracted for the initiative to help equip big rigs with the proper technology.

The Fleet Director GPS system, developed by Teletrac, is being commissioned by the FMCSA to ensure that all American and Mexican trucks will stay lawful while completing trips between nations.

"[Teletrac is] confident that our solution set, expert resources that can deliver training in Spanish, plus headquarters in California and large operations in Texas, will play a vital role in supporting FMCSA," Drew Hamilton, the company’s vice president, said in a statement.

Truckers who would like to partake in cross-border freight hauling may need to take special compliance training for truck drivers coursework in order to understand the unique laws that coincide with this type of work.
