Freightliner Trucks announces new transmission option
The trucking industry is continuing to change, and freight manufacturers are trying to keep up with the demand of the industry.
Fleet Owner reports that Freightliner Trucks is now offering an automated manual transmission (AMT) that will be available to business class M2 truck models. Company executives said that they saw a need for this kind of system from consumers.
The difference between this transmission and an automatic model is that it does not have a torque converter, and instead combines the engine and the transmission with a hydraulically actuated clutch, the source reports.
"We know what our customers want - smart, reliable solutions that will enhance driver comfort while maximizing savings," TJ Reed, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks, told the news provider. "With the Freightliner AMT3, we have created yet another tool that will reduce fuel and maintenance costs to positively impact the bottom line."
The Commercial Carrier Journal reports that the transmissions are perfect for trucks that are used for pickup and delivery operations such as utility, towing and distribution.
