Fleet manager shares his trucking stories

Some motorists may have a hard time understanding why they are cut off or crowded by a big rig. However, one trucker took the time to explain to other drivers that life on the road behind the wheel of a truck is a lot more difficult than some can imagine, The Star Tribune reports.
Fleet management dispatcher Dan Hanson of Minnesota wrote an opinion piece on the story of one of his drivers named Harold. He illustrated the pressures truckers handle every day, including delays in loading freight that cause them to miss important deadlines or other obligations.

Although many drivers undergo CDL training classes, they still must adhere to slower driving tactics or other precarious methods of navigation due to rising fuel costs and driver shortages. Hanson urges those who use the nation's highways to better understand the importance of a truck driver and to patiently handle their presence on the roads.

Recently, National Public Radio interviewed Hanson about his experiences in the industry, and he said that he hopes all motorists will exercise more empathy while driving.

"I have been behind the trucks that are holding me up," Hanson stated during the show. "I understand their frustration."
