Famed trucking event set to begin this week
The long-anticipated National Truck Driving Championship will take place August 9 through the 13 to showcase the talents of drivers who are dedicated to trucking safety. Sponsored by the American Trucking Associations (ATA), the event will put to the test these individuals' past recurrent hazmat training and online truck driver safety training coursework, as well as the experience they have accrued while learning tricks of the trade on the road.
Named the "Super Bowl of Safety," the goal of the event is to raise awareness about trucker health and how these professionals can work to keep motorists protected from unnecessary harm on the nation's roadways. While the event will name many first place drivers, the competition is secondary to the message.
Every state in the nation will be represented through various events, which include a hands-on competition course and written evaluation of a driver's knowledge. These truckers have won their state competitions that qualified for a chance at winning first place during the national tournament.
More than 2,000 trucking enthusiasts are expected to attend the spectacle in Orlando, Florida, this year.
