Fairbanks votes to support a liquefied natural gas trucking operation
As the Middle East unrest continues to increase energy prices around the globe, the Fairbanks City Council in Alaska is planning to support a new liquefied natural gas trucking operation that will help lower the cost of energy.
This resolution was brought on by council members Bernard Gatewood and Chad Roberts and passed 4-1, according to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. By trucking liquefied gas, electric costs could be reduced by up to 10 percent and heating prices would be slashed by more than half.
"If you are trucking gas just to lower your electric bill, that does not help anybody. Where the real savings will be is in space heating for houses. That is the biggest cost to individuals," Fairbanks Mayor Jerry Cleworth told the news provider.
Cleworth added that although none of the proposals the committee has seen are perfect, this newest plan is the most credible.
Those who choose to operate vehicles carrying natural gas may want to consider enrolling in recurrent hazmat training so they can ensure that they are handling the contents correctly.
