Engine companies partner to develop new Dual-Fuel motor for heavy trucks

Companies are beginning to unveil new plans for engine systems that will decrease the industry's dependency on foreign oil and diesel as a whole. For example, Navistar - a manufacturer and marketer of medium and heavy trucks engines - recently showed a prototype of a new motor that will run on both diesel and natural gas.

Recent civil unrest in Libya has contributed to the increased price of fuel. This has prompted the U.S. government to invest in ways to decrease its dependency on foreign oil and look toward making natural gas a reliable fuel source.

Officials told the news source that the Dual-Fuel engine technology may substantially reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions without sacrificing the original motor's characteristic efficiency or reliability. It may also help companies deliver on their environmental commitments while reducing overhead.

Companies may wish to enroll their operators in online truck driving training courses in an effort to help stay up to date on current trends that impact the industry.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the cost of diesel has risen $0.04 over the past week. Currently, fuel costs are holding at $3.98 nationwide.
