Driving while using a cell phone is an unnecessary danger

Texting or talking on a cell phone while driving is a hazardous practice. This is especially true for those in control of massive trucks. Experts say truckers should be especially aware of the consequences surrounding texting while driving, reports Today's Trucking.

A quick message may cause eyes to be off the road for only a second, but motorists are more than 7 times as likely to be involved in an accident or near accident when using their phones and driving. Eating, talking and using an unattached GPS system all provide risky situations as well.

Trucks drivers can face hefty fines for violating the rules. The company can receive a ticket for up to $11,000 for a driver texting, while the trucker themselves may be fined more than $2,500.

According to Greenville Online, texting is still legal on roads in South Carolina. However, many residents of the state have concerns about the lack of regulation with this dangerous habit. If the bill is eventually passed, South Carolina could soon join the other 30 states that have prohibited texting while driving.
