Drivers needed in the Eagle Ford Shale
Many companies in Texas' Eagle Ford Shale are looking for truckers with the necessary CDL training to haul equipment, oil, water, sand and hazardous materials. The need for workers has spread as far as San Antonio, where the Solid Waste Management Department recently held a job fair to attract truckers, reported the San Antonio Express-News.
One of the main challenges in finding qualified truckers in the area is the prevalence of drug use, said the newspaper.
"We're hearing from employers that there are problems with background checks," Monika De La Garza, communications and outreach coordinator for Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, told the newspaper. "It's a challenge that everybody faces. People may be qualified, but not drug free."
According to South Texas ABC affiliate KIII, there are more than 700 jobs available for truckers in the Eagle Ford Shale.
David Ainsworth, owner of Ainsworth Trucking, told the source it's hard to find qualified drivers, but that his company still tests the skills of every new hire before putting him or her behind the wheel.
