Diesel prices spike to the highest levels since 2008
Truck drivers may find that prices are increasing significantly as the nation struggles with a gas shortage. One way to manage this problem is by enrolling in online truck driver training courses, which can teach operators how to manage fuel efficiently.
The Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that prices for diesel fuel have grown another 15.5 cents this past week, which was the single highest increase for the fuel since May 2008, according to Logistics Management.
The news provider reports that this gain comes after the previous week, which saw a 14.3 cent increase. As of now, the cost of diesel fuel per gallon is $3.871.
As these high costs could mean negative effects on the trucking industry, government officials are currently seeking alternative options in an effort to keep costs down.
"We are looking at the options," White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley said in an interview. "The issue of the reserves is one we are considering. It is something that only is done - has been done in very rare occasions. There are a bunch of factors that have to be looked at, and it is just not the price."
Commercial Carrier Journal reports that diesel prices have only decreased three times in the past 23 weeks.
