Court disapproves of new environmental trucking regulation ideas in California

California advocates for cleaner air have been attempting to pass some new regulations to reduce the amount of pollution caused by big rigs. According to Forbes, this plan was opposed by the appeals court and deemed unfeasible.

The port of Los Angeles wishes to regulate private contractors in the trucking industry by limiting their use of outdated equipment, which can be harmful to the environment. This initiative is part of the Clean Truck Plan they would like to see implemented by 2013.

However, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is concerned about the affordability of these new state-of-the-art trucks, fearing some independent drivers will not be able to obtain these expensive vehicles, reports The Los Angeles Times.

The American Trucking Association also did not agree with the proposal, stating that it hindered truckers' livelihood and could cause additional stress for fleet management owners.

Drivers who have completed their CDL training or compliance training for truck driverscourses should look into the various options they have when it comes to work. For example, new drivers can invest in a vehicle of their own, or they may work for a trucking company that supplies the equipment.
