Corporate kingpin asks trucking companies to consider more natural gas
Some big names in the trucking industry are promoting alternative means for fuel, which, if implemented, could drastically change how fleet management professionals and truckers do business. According to The Detroit Free Press, at the annual Detroit Economic Club Conference, T. Boone Pickens stated that he was in full support of energy moving more towards natural gas usage, especially among big rigs.
Pickens is officially retired but involved in BP Capital Management and has a long history of having a significant presence in the corporate world. He is using his recognition to lobby for new legislation that may offer trucking companies tax breaks to use natural gas.
"We are the only country in the world without an energy plan, and we use the most oil," Pickens said at the conference, as quoted by the news outlet.
Other companies and individuals are advocating the switch over to alternative means of fuel as well, such as Chesapeake Energy, reports Daily Markets. Unfortunately, the sometimes high costs and inconvenience of this energy source is preventing many trucking companies from changing to other means of gas for now, until technology can make these options more affordable.
