Company unveils electronic on-board recorder in tablet form

Amid new regulations concerning electronic on-board recorders to update the trucking industry's system of logging hours, technology companies are already attempting to streamline and innovate these devices. Tablet computers are portable and handy, which may allow drivers to communicate both inside and outside of their vehicle.

For instance, PeopleNet's newest computer system is tailor-made for commercial trucking, which will enable operators to perform a variety of tasks faster, The Star Tribune reports.

Operators can capture signatures as proof-of-delivery, communicate with their company, receive permits, reconcile fuel taxes and photograph damage to deliveries with the device. However, the tablet computer is pricey, costing nearly $5,000 to install.

"Many of these companies have to spend most of their budget on an upgrade like this, so talking them into the benefits of our system can be tough," Ron Konezny, founder and the CEO of PeopleNet, told the news source.

Trucking companies may wish to enroll their drivers in online truck driver training courses to help their operators learn the new proposed regulations concerning electronic on-board recorders.
