Company plans to add several natural gas stations along the nation's highways

The cost of fuel is often the biggest expense for many fleet management owners and their businesses. Companies like Chesapeake Energy Corporation are introducing new ways to power big rigs and save the trucking industry money by introducing natural gas stations throughout the country, reports Tire Business.

Recycling and solid waste management companies are among the first to utilize these stations to fuel their vehicles. So far, there are nine stations open along the nation's highways, with plans of an additional 70 to be built within the next year.

Aubrey K. McClendon, chief executive officer of Chesapeake Energy Corporation, says her company is doing its best to keep natural gas in supply and accessible to those in the trucking industry.

"There is clearly ample demand for the benefits of abundant, affordable and American natural gas among consumers who face the high costs of OPEC oil at the fuel pump every day, especially America’s truckers and goods and product shippers," she told the news source.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in 2009 more than 65 million consumers used natural gas for commercial transportation use nationwide.
