Bill could increase speed limit of highways in Ohio
According to The Associated Press, an Ohio House of Representatives committee recently passed legislation that would increase the speed limit for cars and trucks on the state's Interstate highways from 65 to 70 miles per hour.
The AP said the bill allows for a singular speed limit for the state's Interstate highways, the Ohio Turnpike and roadways in surrounding states.
"For people driving through Ohio, I think it’s an unfair burden for them to have to drop their speed and then go to another state, and it goes back up," Representative Courtney Combs, a Republican from Hamilton and chairman of the committee, told the Columbus Dispatch.
The bill is facing opposition from the State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Trucking Association, which has truck driving safety concerns and foresees potential problems with gas consumption, reported the AP.
Combs told the Columbus Dispatch he has seen other states increase speed limits, and said there has been no evidence of resulting safety problems.
