Big rig drivers help find missing persons
Truckers who spent most of their careers on the road have the unique ability to monitor what happens on highways, which can allow them to report mishaps or problems that other officials might miss. The Portland Daily reports that some experts say more efforts could be made to alert drivers of missing persons, for these truckers have access to information other citizens may not have.
In the past, truck drivers have often volunteered their time to distribute flyers about those who are lost, especially in areas that are rural and do not have the manpower to hang flyers along the roads. Some say this can be improved upon with modern technology, such as adding TVs to truck stops that broadcast information about missing people, which could help them be brought back home faster and more efficiently.
According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System website, this organization encouraged individuals, such as truckers, to keep their eyes and ears open to any suspicious activity they witness while navigating public roads across the country. This extra effort could aid in finding lost persons that can be spotted by those who frequent the roads for a living.
