BAE Systems announces new electric hybrid system for trucks
Individuals who are thinking about becoming a truck driver may want to consider enrolling in online truck driver training courses in order to be up-to-date on all of the changes within the industry.
BAE Systems announced that it has plans for a parallel electric-drive hybrid system for its class 6, 7 and 8 trucks, according to Trucking Info. The HybriDrive parallel system was specifically designed for vocational trucks that require higher operating speeds and do not make as many stops.
These systems will use components that have been proven to control energy flow, which will help with energy consumption, as well as reduce emissions.
Reducing energy consumption with these new systems could be good for the industry, as diesel fuel prices keep escalating due to unrest in the Middle East. The Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration revealed that diesel fuel prices increased to the highest levels seen since 2008.
Growing another 15.5 cents this past week, the cost of diesel fuel is now a national average of $3.871 per gallon.
