Arizona highways may see more tolls in the future

Truckers who navigate Arizona’s highways may soon have to pay additional tolls with a proposed bill that could go into effect for Interstate 15, reports Landline. Although state officials believe this is a necessary move, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) does not agree with the new toll proposal.

Experts say they do not wish to instill additional fees on Arizona truckers, but rather gain revenue from out-of-state drivers using the highways.

"For example, it may be appropriate to exempt the locals who are reliant upon the stretch of I-15 from paying a toll," an expert said in the proposed bill application.

According to Trucking Info, tolls are being initiated in several other states under a new federal program, including Virginia and Missouri. The fees are being used to repair damages on the highways, such as broken welds in bridges and cracked pavement.

Truckers who plan to cross state borders while on the job after completing their compliance training for truck drivers may want to look into what state officials are planning for tolls and fees within their regions, which could affect costs for truck companies and its drivers.
