ATA releases its annual publication concerning trucking trends

Created: Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 02:01 pm

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) recently released its 2011 edition of its American Trucking Trends publication, which highlights the progression of the freight hauling industry.

Officials said that the publication gives snapshot of important information that decision and policy makers need to guide them. They added that the data contained in the publication may be just as important in the board room an it is in the hearing room.

According to the facts, the trucking industry employs approximately 7 million people, which includes 3 million drivers. More than 164,000 of those operators are women. The publication also states that vehicles consumed almost 34 billion gallons of diesel fuel in 2010.

"For over 60 years, Trends has provided a profile of the dynamics shaping the trucking industry," said Bill Graves, ATA president and CEO. "It is the singularly most important guide to trucking facts and figures and also serves as a vital source of information on major trucking and transportation issues."

Safety directors may wish to enroll operators into online truck driver training courses to help them stay up to date on trends that impact the industry.
