Job assistance facility looks to help individuals gain work in the trucking industry

Despite what some parts of the country are reporting, prospective operators are standing in line waiting for their chance to drive a tractor-trailer. The Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, which is located in California, was recently packed with individuals looking to gain employment into the trucking industry, news station KABC reports.

Individuals lined up to fill out applications at the federally funded job assistance facility, where officials worked with more than 15,000 job seekers in 2010 and put 2,500 back to work.

"It would be great [to receive a trucking job]," Lloyd Gray, trucking veteran, told the news source. "Steady income. I have all the endorsements, I have hazmat, tankers and I can pull doubles and triples."

Online CDL training and LCV training are both credentials professionals may wish to explore. These classes will help truckers earn a certificate that may make them more attractive to employers and earn higher wages than those without them.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, truck drivers can earn average hourly wages of more than $18. Furthermore, those in supervisory or experience roles can make as much as $25 per hour.
