Trucker health is one of the most essential elements to maintaining an alert and safety-conscious fleet. Drivers often face difficult routines that can make maintaining health an extra challenge. However, some organizations are offering incentives to drivers who are making strides in weight loss and a better wellness routine.

According to Today's Trucking, the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has allowed 11 feet management and logistics companies to participate in a special weight loss competition. Trucking businesses wrote letters to the TCA expressing their desires to take part in the Trucking's Weight Loss Showdown, which will allow drivers from across North America to learn more about healthy living while dropping pounds and battling obesity.

Beginning in January, the trucking teams will have 10 weeks to shed weight by exercising and eating right, and winning participants will be able to earn first-place bragging rights and a mention at the upcoming Safety and Security Division Annual Meeting held by the TCA.

"Forty years old is the average age of our team," said one of the letters by a contributing trucking team. "These folks are beginning to experience the devastating impact of obesity. This Showdown will give them a chance to literally save their lives."
