Truck driver goes above and beyond the call for fitness
Although many truckers are aware that staying physically fit while on the road is important, one driver has gone the extra mile and regularly competes in fitness competitions in his free time.
Recently, Siphiwe Baleka, a driver for Prime Inc, won first place for his division in the Powerman Muncie Triathlon held in Indiana.
"Every week now I am driving about 3,000 miles, cycling 110 miles, running 24 miles and swimming five miles," Baleka said in a statement. "I just want to show other truck drivers that [they] can stay fit even while on the road and compete at a high level if [they] have the desire to do so."
Not only has Baleka excelled physically, he also have a side business called Fitness Trucking Inc. that educates truckers of the importance of trucker health and nutrition. According to the company's website, the professional staff aims to promote solutions to common trucker wellness issues, including obesity, fatigue, diabetes and heart conditions.
Truckers who are interested in driving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle may want to consider joining a fitness program that caters to the specific needs of those who work on the nation's highways.
