Even if an experienced truck driver has undergone extensive CDL training or has taken various compliance training for truck drivers courses, utilizing innovative technology can still be beneficial to stay protected while navigating the nation's highways. Recently, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission introduced a smartphone application that keeps truck driving safety a top priority.

The Trip Talk app verbally announces any variations on the road in front of them so truckers do not have to look at their phone while driving, Trucking Info reports. When drivers enter an alert zone, the app will provide spoken information about what to expect up ahead. Altered conditions include construction areas, traffic congestion or hazardous weather. The user only turns on the app and then does not need to touch the phone again to receive the updates.

According to the app's website, the program is only available for Pennsylvania highways for now and is sponsored by State Farm. It operates either on real-time GPS or by predicting what information may need to be known if the GPS feature is turned off. The app requires no sign up or additional fees to use.
