New partnership aims to improve driver safety and health

In the wake of the launch of CSA 2010, many safety directors are paying particular attention to the health of their drivers. Fortunately, two organizations recently forged a partnership that is intended to ensure that truck operators are staying well while they are on the road.

The Healthy Trucking Association of America (HTAA) and Convenient Care Association (CCA) recently announced the launch of a joint initiative that aims to make affordable healthcare more accessible to traveling drivers.

Through this partnership, health clinics will be set up across the country in convenient locations, such as pharmacies and supermarkets. Drivers who visit these sites will have access to a variety of services, such as Department of Transportation examinations, smoking cessation assistance, treatment for acute illnesses, disease management and weight loss programs.

The initiative is slated to launch in March, and will be announced at the HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit at the beginning of that month.

Safety directors who enroll their drivers in online courses may be more confident that their employees are keeping a close eye on their health and safety while they are traveling.
