Keeping truck drivers fit while behind the wheel

Created: Friday, June 3rd, 2011 02:01 pm

Truck drivers fight to stay healthy everyday against long hours and long stretches of staying stationary. Sometimes, essential foods and areas to exercise are difficult to find. Next Truck Nationwide reported on some ways to maintain a nutritional routine while working on the road.

Food-wise, white bread may be cheaper and more readily available, but most of the vitamins have been removed, leaving empty calories that increase blood sugar levels. Packing whole grain sandwiches can help keep carbohydrates intakes lower than with highly processed breads.

Although tracking ones weight by the numbers can demonstrate progress, the results can also be unnecessarily discouraging if truckers do not see definite progress. Having a healthy body image can be just as important as what the scale says, so taking time to visually check differences can be just as beneficial.

According to CNN Travel, taking frequent breaks with exercise can also benefit a mobile lifestyle. If a driver does not happen to have dumbbells in his cargo area, enrolling in a nationwide gym chain may provide a place for exercise no matter where the job happens to be.
