Human trafficking advocacy group to have booth at national truck show

Created: Monday, August 22nd, 2011 04:01 pm

Although the trucking industry usually maintains a high standard of safety and compliance, there are still issues within the business that are being addressed by advocate groups.

For example, some truckers break the rules and transfer people over state or national borders illegally in their big rigs. The organization called Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) hopes to give light to this problem by providing information at their booth during the Great American Trucking Show this August, Landline Magazine reports.

Officials from the group say that many drivers do not know how to properly report these instances if they witness unlawful activity. They hope to raise awareness about fighting human trafficking violations by backing the national hotline that will record any findings on the instances.

According to the event's website, The Great American Trucking Show is celebrating its 13th year in Dallas, Texas. Along with the TAT, there will be an array of booths on display for trucking enthusiasts, including a driver recruitment pavilion and information on how to obtain compliance training for truck drivers.
